When I am rested and refreshed, I make much better decisions than when I’m not. Have you noticed that for yourself? When I’m tired, I choose “couch potato” over exercise and wise food choices. I find myself reviewing the day through a negative filter. When I focus on God moment by moment and relax in the fact that He is my friend and protector, I am at peace no matter the circumstance of the day.
Graham Cooke, one of my favorite Bible teachers, said, “there is no freedom apart from rest.” He says rest is a weapon against our enemy, Satan.
Today in a sermon (Don’t Drink The Stew) we were warned that weariness leads to exaggerated emotions which can lead to terrible decisions.
All together, that means for me that rest, whether by sleep, Sabbath, or in my spirit day by day, is essential for me to stay in a healthy place with God and myself. How about you?
